TDTU APTITUDE TEST

INTRODUCTION

The art aptitude test at Ton Duc Thang University is organized and tested in the form of practical skills, through two subjects: Fine art drawing and Color decoration drawing. The aptitude tests help us to assess the candidate's cognitive ability about graphics and decoration. Thereby, base on this basis,  we will be able to distinguish the aesthetic ability and creative thinking of the candidates, in order to determine the candidates who are qualified to study in the fields of Interior Design, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Architecture.

The purpose of this test is to assess the candidate's ability to understand, be able to perceive and express the structure of things: to identify light - dark, space before - after, shapes, arrays, etc. of structures that exist around life. In addition, identifying and evaluating the ability to record and observe things in 3D space and express those things on the paper surface of 2D space, through graphic languages: strokes , array, light and dark... Thereby, we could recognize the candidate's ability to sketch, find axes, distribute space, arrange layout, create focal points, etc. For the Color decoration drawing, we can check the contestant's creativity of textures, colors, and layouts in the process of performing basic decoration exercises and applied decoration. Thereby, it helps to evaluate the ability to express the elements of color: harmony, porosity of pigments, cursiveness of coloring techniques...

 

TEST PARTICIPANTS

- Applicants apply for the undergraduate programs in the majors of Interior design/Fashion design/Graphic design/Architecture (all of these programs taught in Vietnamese);

- Applicants already have B2 level Vietnamese Proficiency certificate or completed 01 year of Vietnamese language course at TDTU with B2 level.

 

TEST FORMAT

- Content of the test: The art aptitude test of Ton Duc Thang University includes the following subjects:

+ Fine art drawing: examined and evaluated on the contents of basic shapes and variations of objects. Themes are often associated with still objects that exist around our lives. Contestants present a complete still object work on 30cm x 42cm paper.

+ Color decorative drawing: organized and evaluated based on the basic and applied content of knowledge and skills about decoration and layout. The contest contents often focus on orienting candidates on stylization and texture layout, using colors, painting language, etc. to create a decorative product in life that is applicable and attains character.

The structure of the exam:

+ Fine art drawing: is designed with two parts. The first part is a test consisting of still objects arranged according to the theme. The second part is the part that the candidate must achieve in the process of performing the lesson: Constructing pictures, composition, generalizing descriptions of light - dark, pencil drawing techniques, etc. With a two-part structure, it helps the contestants to have samples to observe and requirements in presenting work, enabling the contestants to know the necessary criteria in the process of presenting a basic graphic.

+ Color decoration drawing: The exam structure is divided into two parts in which the first part is the exam question that includes the test requirements. The second part is the requirements that the contestants need to achieve in the Color decoration painting exam: showing the correct size, creative elements in textures, layout, colors, main color gamut, color expression techniques, etc. On the basis of a two-part structure, helping candidates understand the content of the test and the basic criteria to be achieved in the decoration.

Exam time:

+ Fine art drawing subject: 240 minutes

+ Color decoration drawing: 240 minutes

Materials shown in the test:

+ Fine art drawing subject: pencil material

+ Color decoration drawing: Powder or watercolor (Pentel, Mango, etc.)

Items to prepare for the test:

+ Color decoration drawing:

  • Drawing board (A3 size paper);
  • Soft pencil (2B,3B 4B,5B,6B), candidates can choose suitable soft pencil;
  • Powder or watercolor (Pentel, Mango, etc. );
  • Water-based glue for mixing with powder color;
  • Translucent tracing paper or carbon paper (no picture);
  • Paper tape, butterfly clip (do not use double-sided tape);
  • Color palette (plastic or plywood);
  • Paintbrushes of all kinds (at least 3 large, medium and small ones);
  • Set-square ruler, compass, eraser (eraser), ink pen (ball marker);
  • Cans of water for washing brushes;
  • Rag;
  • Pencil sharpener.

+ Fine art drawing

  • Drawing board (A3 size paper);
  • Soft pencil (2B,3B,4B,5B,6B), candidates can choose suitable soft pencil;
  • Ink pen (ball maker);
  • Eraser;
  • Measuring rod, plumb line;
  • Paper tape, butterfly clip (do not use double-sided tape).
  • Pencil sharpener.

 

TEST MODE

The exam can be taken offline at TDTU.

 

TEST DATE

In Academic Year, the TDTU Aptitude test is expected to occur two times:

  • 1st exam: late May
  • 2nd exam: early July

Note: Detailed date would be announced on website or notified via applicant email for each Academic Year
