1. Introduction:

The Automation and Control Engineering is closely linked to industrial processes, where human operations are completely replaced by machines and robots. This discipline provides students with knowledge of modern automatic control systems in the industry. With the support of electronic technology, the creative ideas of industrialization and modernization in all areas will be realized. 

In the high quality program of Automation and Control Engineering, students will be provided with the knowledge and professional skills in the following areas:

Controlling automatic equipment and systems.

  • Providing knowledge of modern and classical control theory (PID controller, fuzzy logic control, neurnal network, Kalman filtering, etc.) with the goal of achieving optimal, stable and intelligent control for the system.
  • Providing professional skills for designing, installation, maintenance and repairing automatic equipment and systems, and specialized sensors for manufacturing as well as life activites.
  • Providing programming skills for controller devices in industry such as microcontrollers, PLCs, sensors and data acquisition systems (DAQ).

Automation of production and industrial communication

Providing the necessary knowledge for analyzing, designing automatic control systems in industry; monitoring production process; supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA); industrial communication standards such as MODBUS, PROFIBUS, CAN bus, etc.

Robot Design and Control

Providing the necessary knowledge for designing the mechatronic parts of robot, developing the control algorithms for robots, which are applied in many areas from micro robots in medical application to heavy-duty robot in factory. The field of robotics is currently one of the key technology sectors, attracting the attention of scientists. Especially, artificial intelligence programming for robots is the most interested topic.

Special features (English-taught program)

Requirements: Candidates who have IELTS 5.0 or higher

International-standard learning environment with the following properties:

  • Class size: maximum 25 students/class;
  • All academic staff are Professors, Associate/Assistant Professors, and lecturers who have great reputation and teaching experience. Almost all lecturers got the PhD degree or pursuing PhD degree;
  • Modern classroom equipment; early access to new, high-quality experimental devices; support some specialized components in the process of making graduation projects;
  • Priorities in job introduction and postgraduate scholarship recommendation in developed countries around the world;
  • The programme is developed based on the reference to the Bachelor programme in Electrical and Electronics Engineering offered by the University of Manchester (United Kingdom) with some modification to be compatible with current condition of Vietnam higher education as well as the labor market demand in Vietnam;
  • Specialized teaching textbooks and materials developed according to modern materials of advanced programs around the world.
  • All courses are taught in English but students can attend specialized courses in Vietnamese if they like.
  • Company visit and internship at industrial companies are offered regularly.
  • Experience professional internship or undergraduate thesis abroad.

For graduation, students must complete the required coursework, accumulate sufficient credits as required in the programme specification, and achieve all expected learning outcomes of the programme:

  • PLC and industrial communication network certificates;
  • English certificate IELTS 6.0 or equivalence
  • Informatics skills: MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist): 750/1000 (Word/Excel/PowerPoint);
  • Complete extracurricular activities as required
  • Complete soft skill courses, professional specialized skills.

After graduating from the English-taught high quality programme of Automation and Control Engineering, the graduates should have accumulated the followwing knowledge and skills:

Infomatics skill: use Microsoft Office proficiently, equivalent to MOS certificate with the score at least 750/1000;

Foreign language skill: IELTS 6.0 or equivalence.

Specialized knowledge and practical skills:

  • Good knowledge in control theory, automation production systems, system identification and robot design and control.
  • Understand and be able to apply succesfully the principles, procedures, analytical methods, design techniques, control programming techniques, and operation of automatic control systems and equipment; especially, the PLC and SCADA application systems, the industrial communication network standards; electrical drive systems, automatic devices, etc.
  • Operate and program some common kinds of PLC and SCADA softwares as well as various industrial communication network standards; operation and installation of electrical drive systems and automated devices; use efficiently computer-aided design and simulation tools.
  • Manage, design, maintenance, repair and upgrade automatic controlsystems; estimate cost, techniques, devices, time and human resource; regularly update laws, new regulations and technologies.

Students who graduate with the Bachelor degree in Automation and Control Engineering can find their jobs in the following posittions:

Institutes, Research Centers and Universities

Research associates in Vietnam Research Institute of Electronics, Informatics and Automation, National Center for Technological Progress, Integrated Circuit Design Research & Education Center, High Tech Parks; students can be lecturers or researchers in Automation Department in many domestic and foreign universities.

Domestic companies and corporations, foreign companies

Graduates can become design, operation and maintenance engineers in modern production lines in the industry such as automobile assembly line, automation service line, power plant, food processing factories, production lines of construction materials, electronic equipments, etc.

Technical consulting companies, automatic control equipment merchant or technology transfer companies

Students who graduate from Automation and Control Engineering field can become consultants, design, analyze, and simulating models to provide technological solutions for enterprises or governmental agencies. Graduates can be technical support staff for reputable corporations in the country and in the world (Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Bosch, etc.).
