Admission announcement About Part-time / Sandwich doctoral program Academic year 2020-2021

Pursuant to the Prime Minister's Decision No. 158/QĐ - TTg in 29th January 2015, approving the Scheme on reforming the operational mechanism of Ton Duc Thang University in the 2015-2017 period; the amending and supplementing of some articles of the Higher Education Law (Law No. 34/2018/QH14); Document No. 1239/KTKĐCLGD-VB of the Department of Testing and Education Quality Assessment signed on 28th July 2014, about the recognition of doctoral degrees for students completing doctoral programs in the framework of bilateral cooperation between Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), the Technical University of Ostrava and Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic; Document No. 156/KTKĐCLGD-VB of the Department of Testing and Education Quality Assessment signed on 20th February 2017, on the recognition of degrees and implementation of joint training with foreign countries;

TDTU is pleased to announce the admission of part-time/sandwich doctoral programs for Academic year 2020-2021 to lecturers, researchers, academic staff at universities, research institutes, candidates with aspirations and wishes to become tertiary education lecturers, science and technology researchers as follows:

  1. MAJORS, SPECIALIZATION ADMISSIONS:

1.1. Programs with the Technical University of Ostrava:

  • Informatics;
  • Communication Technology;
  • Computational and Applied Mathematics;
  • Electrical Machines, Apparatus and Drives;
  • Electrical Power Engineering;
  • Electronics;
  • Technical Cybernetics;
  • Fire Protection Engineering and Industrial Safety.

1.2. Programs with Tomas Bata University in Zlín:

  • Management and Economics;
  • Finance;
  • Automatic Control and Informatics;
  • Engineering Informatics.

1.3. Programs with the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague:

  • Biochemistry;
  • Microbiology;
  • Biotechnology;
  • Food Chemistry and Analysis;
  • Food Technology;
  • Environmental Chemistry and Technology.
  1. MODE OF ADMISSION:Application review and examination.
  2. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

a. A notarized copy of the bachelor’s degree;

b. A notarized copy of the bachelor’s transcript;

c. A notarized copy of the master’s degree;

d. A notarized copy of the master’s transcripts;

e. A scientific curriculum vitae (in English);

f. A letter of recommendation (for applicants applying to Tomas Bata University)

g. Certificate of foreign language competence:

  • Certificate of English proficiency equivalent to B1 (or 3/6 grade or above in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in specializations at the Technical University of Ostrava or the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague.
  • Certificate of English proficiency equivalent to B2 (or 4/6 grade or above in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in Management, Economics and Finance majors at Tomas Bata University.

h. A research proposal (in English).

Note:

The following applicants are NOT required to submit the certificate of English proficiency according to Item g: 

  • Having a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree from a foreign country where the official language of instruction is English;
  • Having a bachelor’s degree in English.
  • Taking up intensive English courses at TDTU to enhance English competence and  registering for an exam to obtain a certificate of English equivalent to B2 level.
  1. DURATION AND TRAINING CURRICULUM:
  • The training duration is 3-4 years depending on the majors and specializations.
  • The training curriculum, materials, textbooks, etc. are delivered by the Technical University of Ostrava, Tomas Bata University, and the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic.

  1. LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION:all programs are delivered, studied and done research in English.
  • All fundamental and specialized courses are delivered in English;
  • Essays, reports, dissertations must be written, reported and defended in English
  • Doctoral thesis defense: at the National Dissertation Defense Board conducted at the Technical University of Ostrava, Tomas Bata University, the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague.
  1. SUPERVISORS:
  • Primary Supervisors: Professors, Associate Professors of the Technical University of Ostrava, Tomas Bata University, the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic are experienced lecturers in scientific research, pedagogy and international cooperation;
  • Associate Supervisors: Professors, Associate Professors, Doctors with at least 3 years of experience in teaching, researching and delivering graduate programs from Ton Duc Thang University and other universities.
  1. ADMISSION QUOTA: to 5 candidates/major (specialization)/academic year.
  2. DEGREE AND DEGREE RECOGNITION:
  • Doctoral candidates completing their studies and research tasks and successfully defending their doctoral thesis in the Dissertation Defense Board (Czech Republic), will be granted Doctoral degrees with international recognition by the Technical University of Ostrava, Tomas Bata University, the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague.
  • The doctoral degrees from this training program are recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training according to Document No. 1239/KTKDCLGD of Department of Testing and Education Quality Assessment signed on 28th July 2014, or Document No. 156/KTKDCLGD of Department of Testing and Education Quality Assessment signed on 20th February 2017.
  1. TUITION FEES:

Tuition fees shall be paid by doctoral candidates. Tuition fees for the academic year 2020/2021 (applying in September 2020) are as follows:

  • Informatics, Communication Technology, Computational and Applied Mathematics, Electrical Machines, Apparatus and Drives, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronics, or Technical Cybernetics:  VND 69.9 million (equivalent to USD 3,000) / a year.
  • Structural Theories, Geotechnology, Urban Construction and Technology, Fire Protection Engineering and Industrial Safety: VND 81.5 million (equivalent to USD 3,500) / year.
  • Management and Economics, or Finance: VND 81.5 million (equivalent to USD 3,500) / year.
  • Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food Chemistry and Analysis, Food Technology, or Environmental Chemistry and Technology: VND 81.5 million (equivalent to USD 3,500) / a year.
  • The tuition fees are the same for each cohort. However, Czech Republic’s policy allows universities in the Czech Republic to adjust their tuition fees for each cohort (the following cohort may differ from the previous one).
  • Ton Duc Thang University has the scholarship policy for doctoral candidates (from 25% to 100% of the tuition fees) from the beginning of 2016.   1. TRAINING PROCESS, LEARNING AND RESEARCH PLANNING:

Learning and research planning mainly includes:

  • Studying and passing fundamental, specialized and English course exams;
  • Conducting scientific research: writing articles and scientific reports, participating in seminars and conferences;
  • Taking national examinations and defending the doctoral thesis proposals;
  • Submitting a doctoral thesis for defense;
  • Doctoral thesis defense;

The results of study and research of doctoral candidates are achieved by the completion of the curriculum courses, the essays, the articles published in conferences, scientific journals, specialized journals, and, finally, the doctoral dissertation with its successful defense at the National Dissertation Defense Board.

  • The quality assurance requirements for Vietnamese candidates at TDTU are the same as those in the Czech Republic. Vietnamese candidates have all rights to the quality of studying as all the Czech and other international candidates do.
